Snow Loepard Upgrade

Snow Leopard Upgrade (audio file)

Brazilian Portuguese Lesson with Fabio (audio file)

I picked up Snow Leopard today from the SoHo Apple Store. Every since I was forced to upgrade to Leopard from Tiger, my system, I call her Loida, would freeze anytime I used Skype video, expose, animated dock, clear screen, etc. I hope this upgrade fixes the problem.

I also had dinner and a Brazilian Portuguese lesson with my patio neighbor Fabio. He’s from Rio de Janiero. Carriocca!

my first iPhone blog

My First iPhone blog (audio file)

I currently bought an iPhone as a birthday gift to myself and it has drastically improved my short-term memory. I say this because I can capture snippets of my life in real-time and recall upon them for reference or just sit back and re-live that moment.

Over the weekend I attended the opera for the first time. I witnessed Don Giovanni. He’s quite the ladies man who will pursue anything with skirt.

I also attended the American Museum of Natural History for a lecture and some documentary films, all of which are part of the issues on climate change.

The keynote speaker for the lecture was Paul T. Miller, aka DJ Spooky. He recentlly traveled to Antarctica to record all the different sounds like ice melting, wind curling around ice structures, and the sounds of, my personal favorite, the Emporer Pengiuns.

The films that I watched were The Last Days of the Shishmaref and Hair India. Both of there films were equally brilliant but the Shishmaref tribe struck a chord with me because these people are Americans who still live off the land as hunters and gathers. Sadly, their land is being consumed by the rising sea levels. The island of Shishmeref is located at the northern most tip of Alaska between the Bering Sea and the Chukchi Sea.

Along my time and journey through life in NYC I will document different events, things that catch my eye, or just something or someone that truely inspires me.

I will use this content in formation of my personal designs. I will begin my Fall 2010 Collection soon!

Thanks for taking the time to share these experiences with me.

Sincerely,

David D’Angelo Caldwell

This photo was taken In the gallery of Gems & Minerals at the American Museum of Natural History. It reminded me of a shirt.

business contact design 2009

This is my first blog in almost a year. I have designed myself a new business card to correlate with my website.

It was a late night rummaging through the all addicting myspace profile photos of a friend that caught my eye. I have shot some professionally thanks to long nights of practice at the amateur learning level. I like to consider this the playing stage because you really have to play with your equipment to figure out the settings. Reading can spark ideas but only get you so far. Some times you just have to get your hands dirty.

So, I have an acquaintance named Emma that went to NYC this semester for an fashion editorial internship. I say acquaintance because (Continued)

artistic photographer david meanix

david meanixWhen you think of spring break the first thing that comes to my mind, since I am technically considered “old-school”, is Mtv’s Spring Break. It’s usually in some hedonistic location with plenty of sun and an endless supply of ass and drunkenness. But for my spring break this year, which will be my last as a college student, was taken in NYC. I withdrew from the snail pace of Stillwater, Oklahoma to once again emerge myself into this sprawling metropolis of 8+ million inhabitants. I had some job interviews lined up during the the daylight hours. I was doing the hustle and bustle, train hopping, and getting my daily dose (Continued)

boy’s garment design

boy's designThis is the design that will accompany the emperor penguin inspired jacket. My target consumers are all boys at approximately 5 years of age. This design is geared towards playful children that need lots of storage and have big dreams of being an emperor penguin.

Price Point
This garment will appeal to consumers of mid level and higher income.

Trends
Bright colors and bold prints are the big craze this season. Neon’s are hot all over the runway and on the street. I’d like to see gradients used more often in children’s (Continued)

men’s fashion inspiration from paris

april77

If playing dress-up till 5:00 in the morning is not getting you the results that you fancy in your wardrobe, then here are some great looks straight out of Paris that just might spark some creative juices and inspire your silhouette. Yes I know, skinny pants are not for everyone, but if you are cognizant of fashion and the design elements that assist as the backbone to any well structured outfit, then you must look beyond the silhouette. Let’s start with color. High contrast is achieved by complementary colors, which just so happen to be opposites on the color wheel. When these colors are placed next to each other they appear to vibrate or bounce back and forth. There are lots of different color “harmonies”. Don’t be afraid to try something new. If you have taken a look at the current trends right now, you might have noticed (Continued)

free fashion drawing resource book for Ai

free book

For all of you fashion design majors that have not ventured too far into the technology side of the design world, here is a great free online resource book to help you along the way. So put down your old school pens, pencils, and Pantones and start practicing your bezier pen tool. I have interview with several companies that only design in Adobe Illustrator. Besides CAD, which can run hundreds of thousands of dollars for the premium software license, Ai is the next best thing. Plus it has become the industry standard for those who are wanting quick results from domestic and foreign manufacturers. Unless your job is to design in CAD for production, manufacturers are going to interpret your detailed Ai drawings in CAD for you. Here are a few examples of sketches that Ai will produce. Now open Ai and get to learning!
